Downloading and playing the game is obviously the first step to getting started with HQM. There are some differences in each version, however. If you're a Windows user, you want version 0.55f. 0.55f gives you access to the map (very vital part of the game) and a replay feature that isn't very clear how to use. You really just need it for the map though. The Mac version does not have the map enabled for use, which is a pretty major drawback. However, I do recall some people talking about running 0.55f in a Wine skin or something along those lines. I'm not too familiar with Mac operating systems, so if you HAVE to use a Mac, ask around the forums about how to be able to use the map.
